CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's governor has announced a new initiative to fight hunger among the state's school children.

Gov. Gina Raimondo, speaking at Monday's Rhode Island Ministers Alliance Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast in Cranston, said her "No Student Hungry" plan would maximize federal funds in an effort provide all eligible students with free or reduced price meals at school.

The plan would require some public schools to begin offering breakfast others to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students.

Raimondo says the state is not taking advantage of all available federal money for school lunch and breakfast programs.

The governor says she has included nearly $300,000 in state funds her budget proposal to support the program.
